MapleStory Classic Bandit Guide: Job Quest, Daggers & SP

Become a Bandit at level 30, plan a dagger or Sindit route, check Reef Claw requirements and decide whether an SP reset fits your build.

Bandit is the dagger-focused second job of Thief, available at level 30. Start with Dark Lord in Kerning City. Your first-job skills still matter: a Double Stab character and a Lucky Seven character should not blindly follow the same transition plan.

The level-30 job quest

The community launch guide gives this route:

  1. Accept The Thief's Next Journey from Dark Lord.
  2. Take the letter to the Thief Job Instructor at Construction Site North of Kerning City.
  3. Enter the test and collect 30 Dark Marbles from its monsters.
  4. Obtain The Proof of a Hero, return to Dark Lord and select Bandit.

Before entering, refill HP and MP and leave inventory space. If dialogue does not advance, compare your quest log with the item you currently hold; the letter, marbles and proof belong to different stages. Confirm the final job selection rather than treating it as a weapon swap.

Choose your transition before spending SP

Your current setupA practical next decision
Double Stab dagger Thief, no reset plannedKeep a working attack while building dagger support. Do not discard it just because Savage Blow is new.
Lucky Seven claw Thief, no reset plannedKeep the claw and stars while investing second-job points toward a usable dagger setup. You do not have to purchase a reset to become a Bandit.
Lucky Seven Thief planning a later resetBudget for the actual scroll and replacement weapon before adopting a plan that reallocates first-job SP.

The community term Sindit describes a Bandit who uses a claw during part of the transition. It is not an extra job. Nexon's shop notice lists an SP Reset Scroll at 7,000 NX, resetting skills except Beginner skills. Verify the live item before buying; a guide's suggested switch level is not a requirement imposed by the game.

An early no-reset dagger example

For a character who already has a usable Double Stab build, one community starting sequence is:

Character levelSpendResult
30Haste +1Haste 1
31Dagger Mastery +3Mastery 3
32Dagger Mastery +2, Dagger Booster +1Mastery 5, Booster 1

This example provides movement and dagger support while the existing attack carries training. It is not a complete 30–70 allocation. For later choices, compare the linked current community build with your own weapon and potion costs. Savage Blow gains its sixth hit at skill level 21, not character level 21; keep those two levels separate.

Dagger requirements: a concrete AP check

The community item entry lists Reef Claw as a level-30 dagger requiring 25 DEX and 60 LUK. Despite its name, it is not a throwing claw. Suppose you have 20 base DEX and +3 from equipment you will retain: the DEX shortfall is 25 − 23 = 2. Check LUK, job and level as well before purchase.

A STR-dagger plan introduces another equipment decision; do not add STR merely because another Bandit's weapon looks faster. Price and compare the actual next weapon, then use the AP calculation method with bonuses that survive the gear change.

Test the build where you actually train

Start on a familiar map. Compare kills, misses, contact damage and potion use over the same short interval before and after the weapon switch. More hits on the damage display do not automatically mean more net mesos. The meso farming guide shows how to account for those costs.

For earlier preparation, return to Thief before level 30. This page covers Bandit progression; it does not assume that a third-job guide from another MapleStory version applies to the current launch.
