MapleStory Classic Debt System: Restrictions & Repayment

Learn what Nexon’s Debt System restricts, how to repay illegal mesos in town, and how it differs from the new-account trading wait.

The Debt System targets accounts involved in real-money trading or unfair trades involving illegitimately obtained mesos or items. Nexon introduced it in its October 22 notice. It is not an ordinary death penalty or a housing loan.

What is restricted?

While debt remains, Nexon lists restrictions on Store Permits, Hired Merchants, in-game and Cash-item trading, Cash Shop gifting, and dropping items. A login notice shows the debt, and the Repay Illegal Mesos button stays on screen until it is cleared.

How repayment works

  1. Move to a town.
  2. Click Repay Illegal Mesos.
  3. Enter an amount from 1 meso up to the mesos held in your Item Inventory.
  4. Review the amount and confirm the payment.

Partial repayment is allowed. The default amount is the entire debt or your available inventory mesos if you hold less. When all debt is repaid, the listed restrictions are lifted. The notice does not describe an interest rate, a maximum debt or the detection algorithm; we do not invent them.

New account or actual debt?

The launch notes describe a separate account rule: trading opens 24 hours after a character on the account reaches level 15. That is not the Debt System. Look at the actual account message before deciding which rule applies. Waiting after level 15 is not a documented way to clear RMT debt.

If you think the debt is wrong

Use Nexon Player Support. Keep the notice and relevant transaction details private. This fan site cannot inspect an account, lift restrictions or promise that a particular trade is safe from review.
