MapleStory Classic Garnet Ore: Where to Farm & Refine Garnet
Find community-reported Garnet Ore sources, save the apprentice hand-in and distinguish raw ore from Garnet made with Arcforge.

Garnet Ore is the raw material; Garnet is the refined red gem. Community launch guides recommend Dark Stumps as an early ore target and report Stirges as another source. For a recipe asking for Garnet, you must refine or obtain the finished gem rather than hand over the ore.
Where to look for ore
| Monster | Listed level | How to choose |
|---|---|---|
| Dark Stump | 11 | An early target that also fits the Arcforge introduction |
| Stirge | 20 | An alternative once your character can hit it reliably |
| Snail | 1 | Listed in older drop data; do not assume a quick drop |
| Fire Boar / Lorang | 32 / 38 | Later-level alternatives, not starter destinations |
The Garnet Ore database is labelled pre-launch. Its source list is useful for planning but is not a confirmed live drop-rate table. The launch crafting guide separately reports Dark Stump and Stirge sources. No reliable rate is supplied for those two monsters, so a dry streak does not establish that the item has been removed.
Ore versus finished Garnet
| Need | Action |
|---|---|
| Chrishrama's apprentice hand-in | Keep one Garnet Ore unrefined |
| A recipe that names Garnet | Check Arcforge's finished gem recipe |
| A market listing | Read the full item name and quantity before comparing prices |
The current crafting guide lists one Garnet Ore plus 200 mesos → one Garnet, with Arcforge level 1. Chrishrama is the Arcforge NPC. Compare that recipe in the client before spending anything; it is different from the five-ore metal-ingot recipes.
A practical gathering plan
First decide whether you need the raw quest item, a finished gem, or both. Reserve the quest ore, then count the additional gems your chosen recipe needs. Farm enemies you can defeat consistently, recording potions and time spent. If the material is still missing, compare a player listing with your remaining gathering cost instead of repeatedly moving to harder monsters.
Finished Garnet is also listed among random rewards from Luke the Security Guy. A random gem reward is not a guaranteed Garnet source. Do not substitute a historical server's fixed drop rate for the current client's recipe or quest requirement.
