Magician advancement is at level 10 in Global Classic World. Talk to Grendel the Really Old in Ellinia. At level 30 the branches are Fire/Poison Wizard, Ice/Lightning Wizard and Cleric.

Plan INT before leaving the island

The current community guide prioritizes INT before first advancement. AP spent on STR to speed up Beginner attacks is not automatically refunded. After advancement, choose your next equipment first, count its LUK requirement and include bonuses already on your gear. Spend secondary AP for that real requirement, not a universal level-plus-number rule.

Energy Bolt or Magic Claw?

Energy Bolt is the straightforward projectile option. Magic Claw is useful when terrain interrupts a bolt's path. The community launch guide describes Magic Claw as able to reach through platforms and walls, while an obstructed Energy Bolt can still consume MP.

Try the attack on the map you actually use. Compare complete kills and potion cost, rather than the displayed damage of one cast. Follow the current skill prerequisites before raising Magic Claw.

Guard, armor and your potion budget

Magic Guard shifts part of incoming damage into MP. That can protect you, but it also affects the cost of taking hits. Magic Armor is a different defensive choice. Avoid treating every defensive point as free safety: check the current skill description, then choose for the damage you encounter.

Keep enough mesos to replenish MP and leave a dangerous map safely. A crowded or high-damage training spot can erase the advantage of a higher-level weapon.

Before choosing the second job

Review Fire/Poison, Ice/Lightning and Cleric with your preferred group and combat style in mind. This starting guide does not rank their untested long-term damage. The AP and SP guide covers shared planning, and the Pure Water page explains where that quest item and MP consumable is sold.
